This small urban site was one of LB Hackney's 8 strategic locations for a new Sure Start Children's Centre. It was developed as an annex to the existing Millfields Community Primary School and extends the school's services by creating pre-school facilities for children ages 0-5 years - offering nursery facilities, a community room and targeted health and social care services for the local community.

The building is formed of 3 distinctive volumes that differentiate the key functions of the Children's Centre - the reception and baby room (0-2 years) to the front of the site; the nursery rooms and sensory play (2-5 years) which connect with the existing nursery building; and the consultation rooms and multi-use community space which formed the 1st floor timber cedar clad box. An external courtyard and roof terrace provide secure outdoor play space serving each of the main volumes. Green roofs provide a 4th elevation visible from the upper floors of the existing Primary School.
