Telegraph Hill - House 1

Copy of rear elevation_200803.jpg

Location: New Cross, Lewisham

This rear and side extension to a Victorian end of terrace is located within the Telegraph Hill Conservation Area, New Cross. The design looks to provide a spacious family kitchen, dining space and a additional living space that relates better to a large well established rear garden.

Its massing aims to minimise impact on the street, and maintains generous daylighting to the neighbouring garden. Materials like London stock brickwork form the shell of the new extension and a new perimeter wall and precast concrete lintels and sills tie it back to the language of the existing house.

The design also focuses on low energy design principles to improve thermal comfort and reduce energy costs. It utilises solar gain for the winter months incorporating triple glazed windows and doors, increased insulation and airtightness. Careful consideration was also made to re-establishing the green boundary to the street by way of a green roof, which in turn improves insulation and local biodiversity with the extensive garden space.

Completion: Summer 2020
